Şekerbank has once again demonstrated its strong performance in sustainability on an international scale by achieving the highest “A” score in all categories of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the world's leading independent environmental reporting platform: “Climate Change,” “Water Security,” and “Deforestation.” With this result, Şekerbank has joined the ranks of a select group of institutions worldwide that have achieved the highest level in three categories at once among 23,000 companies in the CDP.
Şekerbank has once again confirmed its pioneering role in social and environmental banking on an international scale by achieving an “A” score in three categories under the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the world's leading independent environmental reporting platform. The bank maintained its “A” score in the “Climate Change” and “Water Security” categories from last year, while also receiving an ‘A’ score in the “Deforestation” category, which was reported for the first time this year. This makes it one of the few institutions among 23,000 companies to achieve the highest score in all three CDP categories.
A holistic sustainability approach centered on climate, water, and nature
Şekerbank, which places sustainable development at the heart of its business model, demonstrated strong performance in CDP assessments with its integrated approach to climate, water, and nature. In the “Climate Change” category, the Bank stood out with its risk and opportunity analyses covering almost its entire credit portfolio and its practices supporting low-carbon and climate-resilient transformation. In the “Water Security” category, analyses focusing on drought and physical climate risks, particularly in the agricultural sector, were supported by financing solutions that encourage modern and efficient irrigation investments. In the “Deforestation” category, reported for the first time this year, Şekerbank earned an “A” score by comprehensively implementing nature-based credit policies through its Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS).
Fatma Nur Çetinel: “International recognition of our nature and climate-focused strategic approach.”
Fatma Nur Çetinel, Executive Vice President of Treasury and Financial Institutions at Şekerbank, commented on the matter, stating: "Receiving an ‘A’ score in all of CDP's categories—climate change, water security, and deforestation—confirms our nature- and climate-focused strategic approach, which promotes sustainable finance across all customer segments, on an international scale. As Şekerbank, we will continue to make concrete contributions to reducing environmental impacts and Turkey's green transformation, particularly through our agriculture and SME-focused financing solutions. We view every step we take focused on climate, water, and nature as an integral part of our long-term development vision."
