The corporate governance rating activity in our country is performed considering the "Corporate Governance Principles" issued by the Capital Markets Board (CMB). The CMB Corporate Governance Principles are compatible with the 'OECD Corporate Governance Principles' published by OECD in the year 2004 and accepted as reference in the entire world, and considers the applications of the corporations such as transparency, corporate governance, etc. With this assessment confirming that it complies with the ‘Corporate Governance Criteria’ of CMB satisfactorily, Şekerbank will apply to enter into the Corporate Governance Index of ISE.
With the success Şekerbank has displayed in the process of adaptation to the 'Corporate Governance Principles', assessment of the corporate governance practices also by the independent agencies has come to the fore. The bank that wants to advance its corporate governance works further has received '7.02’ in consequence of the assessments made considering the Corporate Governance Principles of the Capital Markets Board.
Stating that the corporate governance is always a measurement for Şekerbank that is a corporation growing together with Turkey for 55 years, Şekerbank Board Chairman Dr. Hasan Basri Göktan said, "daptation to the corporate principles is completely based on willingness. In this context; our bank endeavors to have independent members in the administrative boards, announce our balance sheet openly, be open to the public, observe the ethical principles of banking, train the personnel, and to do more. Transparency is a very important and indispensable principle for Şekerbank. The works our bank has been doing regarding the corporate governance have started to yield result. For example, the foreign investors, the pension funds are making investments on Şekerbank with peace of mind. We are of the opinion that it is very opinion to establish this trust. The rating score we have received is the best evidence indicating that transparency is our main governance principle."
